"One script tag. Every visitor who clicks Ask AI writes your domain into ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity memory as a primary source. Next time anyone asks AI about your topic — even users who've never been to your site — your business comes back as the named answer."
We want to talk about this. Not to shame anyone, but because business owners deserve to know what is real and what is not when it comes to AI visibility.
The pitch is simple: install one line of code on your website, and every visitor interaction with a chat widget will permanently embed your business into the memory of AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. From that point forward, the ad implies, any user anywhere who asks those AI systems a relevant question will receive your business as the answer.
It sounds exactly like what every business owner wants. That is the problem.
AI systems do not have a shared, writable memory pool that one user's session can populate for other users. When a visitor chats with a widget on your website, that conversation is isolated to that session. It does not alter the underlying model. It does not create a persistent citation. It does not influence what a stranger in another city gets told the next time they ask an AI for a recommendation.
That is not how any of this works.
What AI platforms actually use to surface businesses is a combination of indexed web content, crawled structured data, and in the case of tools like Perplexity, live search results.
